Tony Blair has had his hair cut and told Good Morning Britain his Gandalf look is gone for good

Tony Blair appeared on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday's show but the interview quickly diverted to the former prime minister's hair.

Susanna Reid and Alastair Campbell questioned Mr Blair over his controversial hairstyle during a recent interview, in which he was seen with slightly longer locks.

Alastair, who was Tony's spin doctor during his years in power, said: "Tony, Mr Blair, I've worked with you for many, many years, we've done many events together, I've always defended you, I've always tried my best to look after your communications and image.

"So, can you explain to me how you allowed yourself to do a television interview looking like..."

"Gandalf," Susanna interjected.

"Gandalf is better than some of the other things I've been called," Mr Blair responded, explaining that it had taken him some time to get organised after lockdown.

Mr Blair then said it was "interesting and depressing" that his hairstyle had had such an impact.

He added: "Literally, when I said to my people, 'what have we received most traffic about the last year, which one of these topics? They said, 'well actually your hair'."

"Ok, so welcome to being a woman on television," Susanna quipped back.

Alastair has been guest co-hosting GMB with Susanna this week but today marked his last show. Adil Ray is set to return on Monday, May 17. You can read more on this here.

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
