Tony Andreu says St Mirren should have put Hibs to the sword at Easter Road

Creative midfielder Tony Andreu slammed Saints for not taking their chances after letting a two-goal lead slip out of their hands.

St Mirren’s attacking display caught Hibs cold on Saturday, with the visitors racing into the lead through Conor McCarthy’s first goal for the club and Andreu’s sweet strike.

But the talented Frenchman believes the Buddies should have made more of their first-half opportunities, insisting they could have bagged all three points from Hibs if they’d made more of their early dominance.

He told Express Sport: “It’s always frustrating not to win when you’ve gone two-nil up.

“The first half we played very well but we definitely could have scored more goals. Maybe mine when I cut back inside I probably could have done better.

“If we’d scored one or two more it would have been a totally different story. To score two goals away from home, you really should be getting all three points.

“We knew that Christian Doidge was going to be dangerous in the box with headers.

“We knew the cutback for Scott Allan would be dangerous so it’s frustrating we didn’t deal with that.”

The draw in Edinburgh backed up another solid point picked up against Aberdeen heading into Wednesday night’s clash with Hamilton.

And Andreu believes Saints’ current form, having lost just twice in their last nine games, gives them plenty of reason for optimism going into that crunch match with Accies at the Simple Digital Arena.

He said: “A point away from home is always good. Hibs are a great team, especially at home.

“We’re on a good run over the last few months. We’re going in the right direction.

“The goal I scored was one we worked on in training so that’s pleasing to see it come off.

“We want to score goals around the team, the midfield helping out with goals would be better and I need to score more.

“We’re really positive heading into the Hamilton game. It’s massive and we know we have to win.

“We need to get as many three points as we can get because you can see the league is really, really close.

“Every game is important but when you see the table we definitely need to win on Wednesday night.”
