Tonight's Love Island cancelled by ITV as a mark of respect to Caroline Flack

Love Island will not be shown tonight as a mark of respect to former host Caroline Flack, who has died aged 40.

ITV's flagship dating show will instead return on Monday night with a tribute to the TV presenter, who hosted the show since 2015 and its spin-off Aftersun since 2017.

Show bosses said the decision was made after 'careful consideration' after receiving the devastating news of her death om Saturday.

An ITV spokeswoman said: “Many people at ITV knew Caroline well and held her in great affection. All of us are absolutely devastated at this tragic news.

“After careful consultation between Caroline’s representatives and the Love Island production team and given how close we still are to the news of Caroline’s tragic death we have decided not to broadcast tonight’s Love Island out of respect for Caroline’s family.

"Love Island will return tomorrow night which will include a tribute to Caroline who will be forever in our hearts.”

A lawyer for Caroline's family said she'd taken her own life after she had been "under huge pressure."

She had been charged with assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton, which she had denied, and had been due to appear in court to stand trial on March 4.

She stepped down from presenting the first winter series of ITV2's Love Island after she was charged with assaulting Lewis in December at her former flat in north London.

Saturday night's episode of Love Island, the Unseen Bits round-up of the week's events in the South Africa villa, was also pulled following her tragic death.

Following the news of Caroline's death an ITV spokeswoman said: "Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news.

"Caroline was a much loved member of the Love Island team and our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends."

Channel Four has said it will no longer air The Surjury, a new cosmetic surgery-based TV series with Caroline as its host.

A  spokeswoman said: "We are shocked and saddened to hear the tragic news about Caroline Flack. Our deepest sympathies go out to Caroline's family and friends.

"Under the circumstances, we have decided not to broadcast The Surjury."
