Toni Harris wants to play for Seahawks as 1st female in the NFL

Toni Harris, the first woman to receive a college football scholarship at a skill position, has even bigger dreams. Not only does the defensive back want to become the first female to play in the NFL,but she wants to do it for the Seattle Seahawks.

Harris signed a scholarship to play at Central Methodist University, becoming the first female who wasn’t a kicker to sign a football scholarship. Harris played two seasons at East Los Angeles College before agreeing to transfer to CMU.

Central Methodist was one of five schools to offer Harris a scholarship after her time with the Huskies, where she played in three games and recorded three tackles, one for a 24-yard loss.

Harris is a Detroit native, but dreams of suiting up for the Seahawks. To date, only one woman has attempted to play for an NFL team: Lauren Silberman, who tried out at a scouting combine in 2013.

While the NFL has finally come around and hired women to be assistant coaches, Harris’ goal would be even more groundbreaking. She took a big step closer by earning a scholarship at Central Methodist.
