The Nippori-Toneri Liner fully resumed service on Monday, four days after a strong earthquake rattled Tokyo.
The line runs between Nippori Station in Tokyo's Arakawa Ward and Minumadai-shinsuikoen Station in Adachi Ward. It is an automated guideway transit system that runs on rubber tires.
A five-car train derailed at the time of the earthquake on Thursday, and had to be removed and restored. The quake measured upper 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7.
In addition to the derailed train, the Tokyo metropolitan government's Transportation Bureau also found damage to five more of the line's 20 trains overall. As a result, Nippori-Toneri Liner had to reduce the number of trains during the morning commute period by about 10% from the regular schedule.
"It's good that the service has resumed," a 72-year-old passenger from Adachi Ward said after arriving at Nippori Station on Monday morning. "The liner is an essential form of transport for daily life. I want the operator to find the cause and prevent a recurrence."
