Tomorrow's weather: Sleet showers, blustery winds and risk of ice according to Met Office

Storm Ciara has finally ebbed, but more severe weather could be on the way, according to the Met Office.

The yellow warning is in place for 'snow and wind' across much of Scotland until noon, according to the weather service.

The forecasters predict potential snow and sleet showers from around 6am, with 'feels like' temperatures plunging to -3C through the morning. Downpours will become less widespread in the afternoon, with some drier, brighter weather later on.

Metereologist Claire Nasir said: "There's an extensive snow warning covering much of the country through Wednesday, we're likely to see a risk of ice as temperatures plummet. A very cold night and significant wind chill.

"First thing on Wednesday morning, snow showers are moving in, with clearer skies towards the east. They'll become a bit more scattered through the afternoon and temperatures will be struggling between 1-4C. "

Another forecast from Met Office's Alex Deakin warned Glaswegians: "Temperatures will be a touch above freezing, but the surfaces will be below freezing. It's likely to be icy in places on Wednesday morning and it will feel bitterly cold because of those winds, which will finally start to ease.

"Still blustery, with some sleet and snow showers early on Wednesday, but generally starting to calm down a touch."

After torrential rain, strong winds and even thundersnow causing travel disruption and floods over the last few days, the news will no doubt come as a relief to many Glaswegians.

Another weather system named Storm Dennis is set to hit the north of Scotland on Saturday, bringing heavy rain and gales to parts of the UK. Though thankfully, this one is unlikely to be as extreme as his predecessor.

Steve Ramsdale, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office said: “Another spell of very wet and windy weather is expected for Saturday, although Storm Dennis is currently not expected to be as severe as Ciara disruption is still likely."

Forecasters added that heavy rain is also expected with the storm and, with ground already saturated, there is a risk of further flooding.

And with the warning comes a risk of road and rail disruption, including delays and cancellations to transport services, damage to power supplies and large coastal waves.
