Tomori back, wonderkids in action and Gilmour battles - Things we noticed from Chelsea training

After three wins in a row since the restart, Chelsea take on West Ham United at the London Stadium tomorrow night.

The Blues will be hoping to continue their run of form as the top four race really heats up with just a few matches remaining.

In the pouring rain, Frank Lampard continued preparations at Cobham for the match with the Hammers.

But what did we notice from the session ahead of another crunch game?

Frank Lampard's plan for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech

Fikayo Tomori returns

While there was one blow in the form of Andreas Christensen picking up an injury, there was the return of another centre-back.

Fikayo Tomori was with the rest of the squad ahead of the match with West Ham tomorrow night, having not featured since the return of football.

The young centre-back picked up a muscle injury during the pre-season, and is yet to feature for the club since the draw with Bournemouth in February.

Lampard will be hoping Christensen is fit for the game, but Tomori being back in training is good news for the Blues boss.

Youngsters involved

Frank Lampard has been willing to bring in several youngsters during the ‘pre-season’ and that has remained the same during the campaign.

With so many games coming thick and fast for the Blues, there could be another chance for players to come through and play.

Lampard has been willing to give the youngsters time in training as well, and they have been involved ahead of the Hammers match.

Lewis Bate, Ian Maatsen, Tino Livramento, Dynel Simeu and Armando Broja were all spotted in the session, to make up the numbers for training.

Callum Hudson-Odoi involved

For Callum Hudson-Odoi, this hasn’t quite been the season that the youngster would have been wanting to have.

The 19-year-old signed a new long-term deal, but injuries have seen his season stuttered.

He missed the beginning of the campaign, while he has also not played since the return of the league.

Lampard has stated that he is not match fit, but tomorrow night, if there is an injury to Christian Pulisic, then he could be back on the bench.

With the introduction of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech next season, there’s no doubt that Hudson-Odoi will be hoping to have a strong end to the campaign.

Billy Gilmour battles away

After bursting on to the scene pre-lockdown, the youngster had a difficult return to action in the win over Leicester City.

The Scotland U21 international really struggled in the first half before being taken off during the break.

While it would be a set-back for Gilmour, there is no doubt that he will come back stronger and look to impress once again.

In training, it certainly looked like the midfielder was ready for the battle and he will be hoping to get his chance once more.
