Tomney's Bar accept Ulster Pub of the Year award in memory of much-loved team member

Tomney's Bar has won pub of the year once again, and this time the team have accepted the award in memory of a person very close to their hearts.

The much-loved Moy pub was crowned Ulster Pub of the Year at a ceremony in September - the team's second steal of 2021 after being named Tyrone Pub of the Year back in July.

The venue, located in the heart of the village on The Square, is known for combining a homely atmosphere with good craic and live music.

It was first opened by the Tomney family in 1756 and still remains in the family over 250 years later.

The award comes at a particularly emotional time for the community, following the loss of Laurence Logue, or 'Logi' as he was better known, who helped run the bar.

When Logi passed away in August, hundreds of messages were left online paying tribute to the Derry native, highlighting the huge impact he had on everybody who walked through the bar doors.

One tribute said: “Such a massive loss to the whole community. Such an absolute gentleman and a true character of the Moy."

While the whole Tomney's Bar crew could not be in London for the ceremony, Logi's niece stepped in to accept the award on the team's behalf.

Speaking to MyTyrone about the award win, owner Barry McNeice said: "We are delighted to accept this award on behalf of the recent passing of our highly esteemed colleague Logi.

"His niece Emma was in London on the night of the awards with her partner Mark in order to receive both Tyrone and Ulster Pub & Bar of the year 2021 on his and our behalves. This made it all the sweeter."

The month's mind for Logi is being held at 3pm on Saturday, September 18 at St John’s Chapel in Moy. Anyone is welcome to attend.
