Tommy Wright thanks fans for sticking by them as Kilmarnock bag semi-final spot

Tommy Wright says he's delighted that Kilmarnock have a semi-final to look forward to – and he's thanked the Ayrshire faithful for braving the cold Lanarkshire weather.

The Rugby Park side didn't do it the easy way, though, in the SPFL Trust Trophy as they were trailing 2-1 to Hamilton Accies in the 88th minute.

But an incredible double from Jack Sanders in the 89th and 94th minute ensured victory was sealed in normal time.

Daniel Armstrong opened the scoring in the 53rd minute before David Moyo and Andy Ryan looked to have sealed a last-four spot for Accies.

But centre-back Sanders made sure there were no penalties to worry about as he banged two goals in himself.

And boss Wright said: "The late goals aren't good for the heart!

"It was a fantastic cup tie, it had everything...controversy, by that I mean an absolutely ridiculous penalty decision, and also two late goals from us.

"We levelled late and it looked like penalties, but we kept pushing forward and we got the goal.

"Overall I think we deserved it even though Hamilton might feel like it was job done when they were winning so late.

"I am really pleased for the players, and now we have a semi-final to look forward to in 2022.

"The fans that came to the game: thank you. It was an horrendous night, and hopefully they went home happy."
