Tommy Wright set for Kilmarnock manager role as former St Johnstone boss to be unveiled on Monday

Former St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is set to be unveiled as Kilmarnock boss on Monday.

The Northern Irishman is the individual Rugby Park chiefs have identified to succeed departed Alex Dyer and a deal is close.

Wright has been in talks with Ayrshire bosses for the past 48 hours after being chosen as the No.1 candidate by club hierarchy.

Record Sport understands the 57-year-old travelled to Kilmarnock on Sunday night with and will be officially confirmed on Monday.

The ex-St Johnstone boss will take the side for training sessions ahead of leading them into Wednesday’s clash against Motherwell.

The ex-McDiarmid Park gaffer, who led the Perth outfit to their first Scottish Cup success seven years ago, has been out of management since leaving the Saints post at the end of last term.

Wright goes into the job with Killie struggling. Defeat to St Mirren at the weekend has left them just four points ahead of bottom of the table side Hamilton Accies.

The Rugby Park outfit have lost 10 of their previous 13 matches, but will now hope the experienced manager can bring the knowledge and nous to steer them to safety over the final 11 games of the top-flight term.
