Kilmarnock 1 Morton 1
(Kilmarnock won 4-3 on penalties)
Tommy Wright has hailed the character of his side to bag a late equaliser before coming from behind on penalties to secure a bonus point against Morton.
Kyle Connell’s late header sickened Morton after a good effort on return from their Covid crisis against Kilmarnock.
His equaliser cancelled out Lewis McGregor's 15th minute opener.
Killie bagged an extra point via winning a penalty shoot-out which now gives them a chance of qualifying from the group if they beat leaders Stranraer on Saturday.
Substitute Blair Alston lost his balance stepping up to take his spot-kick but still beat Jack Hamilton.
Fellow subs Daniel Armstrong and Liam Polworth plus Fraser Murray also netted. And loan goalie Zech Hemming was a hero with two saves.
Killie boss Wright said: “We’ve a chance to go through and that’s all down to the character of the players.
“A win won’t guarantee it for us against Stranraer. We might need to win by a number of goals.
“I think we got what we deserved. Kyle has an eye for goal and he took it well.
“I’m really pleased how Zach came up trumps.”
