Tommy Tiernan tipped to become host of RTE's The Late Late Show after Ryan Tubridy

Comedian Tommy Tiernan is being tipped to become the next Late, Late Show host.

Odds of the Derry Girls star fronting RTE’s iconic Friday night show have dropped to 20/1 from 40/1 with BoyleSports after fans placed a number of speculative bids.

The 50-year-old TV veteran has had plenty of interview practice with his own programme The Tommy Tiernan Show, where he has no idea who the guests are until they walk out on stage.

However, Prime Time presenter Miriam O’Callaghan is the bookies’ favourite to become the next permanent host after stepping in to replace Ryan Tubridy last Friday.

Her odds fell to 15/2 from 25/1 after she hosted the show while Tubs battled coronavirus.

BoyleSports spokeswoman Sarah Kinsella said: “Miriam O’Callaghan has attracted some speculative wagers to host the Late Late Show permanently one day in the future after she filled in last Friday.

“But now fans of Tommy Tiernan are getting behind the comedian and we made him 20/1 from 40/1 as a result.”
