Tommy Tiernan Show praised for 'authentic' and 'powerful' interview with former heroin addict

Tommy Tiernan Show viewers praised the Saturday night show for a compelling interview with a former heroin addict last night.

Cork man James Leonard discussed his drug abuse and how he overcame it in a chat with comedian and host Tommy Tiernan on RTE.

He explained that he was introduced to heroin in prison when he was 21 years old and thought by smoking it he was using it "safely".

But James learned the hard way and became addicted to the dangerous drug, RSVP Live reports.

Thankfully the Cork man was able to get past his addiction and now has a Masters in Criminology.

Last night he shared his inspiring story on national television.

"There's nothing glamorous about it, every day is a struggle," James said.

"You feel like sh*t, you're treated like sh*t. Society looks at heroin addicts as the worst in society."

Viewers at home were moved by James' interview and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One viewer wrote: "Lads & Lassies, Tommy is just wiping the floor with every Sat night show we've ever seen. Without doubt, the most powerful piece of TV in many a year."

"Brilliant, honest interview. Congratulations and wishing you continued happiness and success. Thanks for sharing this very powerful story," another commented.

A third added: "Loved this. Thank you James Leonard and Tommy Tiernan. So authentic. So powerful."

While a fourth said: "What an excellent interview. James is simply inspirational."
