Tommy Tiernan's wife Yvonne says stepping away from managing the comedian was good for their marriage

Tommy Tiernan’s wife Yvonne has said stepping away from managing the comedian was good for their marriage as a couple.

The couple married in 2009 in the lavish Castle Leslie and have three children together. Tommy has three other children from his previous marriage with Jayne Street.

The Rathfarnham native ran The Chieftains Irish management office and also is part of her husband’s management team – but admitted she stepped back from managing the host for a while.

She said: “We have an amazing team of people who work with us and for us, and there’s times when I’m heavily involved in the management of the business side of things for Tommy’s work and times I’m not.

“The reason I find it hard to answer that one is because he kind of manages himself and then he has international management.

“So technically, I am part of the management team but there was a stage where it was good for us that I wanted to go and do something else. So I stepped away from it for a while and that was really good for us.

“When you’re a couple, you can end up just talking about work a lot.

“So I stepped and did my own projects. What I like to say is we work together, and we have a business together; we’re business partners.”

She also says she doesn’t mind when Tommy mentions her during his stand-up shows and podcasts.

“No I call ‘here’ his comedy wife, she’s not exactly me, I know what’s true and what isn’t,” she told the RTE Guide.

Yvonne is part of a new band, The Raines, who are going on tour in July and August.

She opened up about her own singing abilities, she said it was the late Paddy Moloney, of The Chieftains, who gave her the opportunity to showcase her vocal cords on stage while they were touring Japan.

“I still can’t believe he’s gone. We were very close, he was such a powerful force and a real supporter of mine.”
