Tommy Tiernan returns to RTE this weekend with new show featuring host of famous faces

Tommy Tiernan returns to Irish TV screens this week but not as viewers would usually expect.

The Navan funnyman has had a spectacular year with his RTE chat show proving to be a massive ratings hit yet again.

The show was so popular among viewers particularly throughout lockdown that it prompted RTE to commmission a further six episodeS of the hit show.

This season saw Tommy speak to a range of interesting guests including Irish rugby legend Brian O'Driscoll, activist and writer Sinead Burke and famous broadcaster Eamon Dunphy.

Another notable guest was fellow comedian Ardal O'Hanlon best known for playing Father Dougal in the hit Channel 4 comedy series Father Ted.

And now it looks as though the pair are set to collaborate once again in a new RTE show.

The programme entitled Holy F*** looks set to examine the relationship Irish people have with swear words with one in particular set to get a lot of coverage.

In a swear filled preview clip for the show released on social media on Monday, Ardal says: "We curse a lot in the country.

"We swear casually and fluently, and with great relish. We love it."

Ardal, continues: "Do we have a f***ing problem?"

Among those appearing in the trailer are none other than Ardal's friend Tommy as well as Irish rock star Bob Geldof.

Galway-born novelist Lisa McInerney is also among those to make an appearance on Holy F***, as is Dr Emma Byrne, author of How To Build A Human and Swearing is Good For You.

In addition, Irish Times journalist Frank McNally and drag performer and publican Rory O’Neill/Panti Bliss can be seen sharing their own favourite curse words, while Irish language expert and writer Manchán Magan speaks about bad language as Gaeilge.

Holy F*** will air from 9.30pm on RTE One this Sunday.
