Tommy Tiernan confirms that his chatshow will return in 2021 with a big difference

While COVID-19 has halted TV and film production around the country, Tommy Tiernan has kept himself busy with his new podcast.

Since being launched, The Tommy and Hector Podcast with Laurita Blewitt has proven to be incredibly popular with its personalities and unique approach to recording resonating with listeners.

After all, how many podcasts are recorded from a hen house?

This being said, using an innovative approach and doing something that's a little bit different is the norm for Tommy Tiernan, as seen by the format of his beloved chatshow on RTE.

During a recent interview with Ian Dempsey on Today FM, the comedian was asked about the status of the new season and confirmed that it will air in 2021.

The Navan man confirmed that the new season is set to air in early stages of next year and when asked if it will be recorded without an audience - or with just a few people present in the studio - Tiernan said: I don't know, there's not much of a buzz when someone walks out and the cameraman starts clapping," he joked.

"That's a bit like running onto Croke Park and only hearing the stewards clapping! So, there will be no audience and I asked Brendan O'Connor about what that felt like? He said that can make interviews a bit intense, so I'm hoping to avoid that and just have a bit of craic as well, we'll see," he added.

Fans of Tommy Tiernan's show will also be delighted to know that his new book ‘Winging It’ is out now and it features 21 interviews from The Tommy Tiernan Show including his conversations with Adam Clayton, Bob Geldof, Michael D Higgins and Paul McGrath.

The book also contains extra information and details from some of his most famous interviews.

"We record for a long time and there are extra bits. For example, say my interview with Bob Geldof, we recorded that for over an hour and we edited it down for about 25 minutes - so there's extra stuff in all of them and they're in the book," he said.
