Tommy Robinson arrested for 'breaking coronavirus rules' in London

Far-right activist Tommy Robinson has been filmed being arrested in London today.

The English Defence League founder was captured on film being led away from Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park by least 12 police officers.

Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, could be heard protesting his innocence as he was being taken away.

Police said his arrest was for allegedly breaching coronavirus regulations.

Supporters were seen surrounding the officers to shout at police and film the incident in support of Robinson.

As police handcuffed Robinson, 37, he told officers: "You're breaking my f****** arm. What are you doing? I'm not resisting."

Before his arrest, Robinson was surrounded by a large crowd, some were supporters while others seemed to be trying to argue with him.

As the crowd dispersed, one onlooker could be heard shouting, "they've got Tommy" as he was being held by police near some railings.

Police said an arrest was made due to the alleged breaching of coronavirus regulations.

A spokeswoman for the Met Police said: "Officers were policing an assembly at speakers corner, Hyde Park on Sunday, November 1.

"At 2.44pm a man aged in his 30's was arrested under the coronavirus regulations for holding or being involved in the holding of the event. He has been taken to police custody."

In 2018 Robinson was jailed for 13 months after breaking a contempt of court order by streaming a Facebook Live video outside Leeds court.
