Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul 'verbal agreement' made with fight date settled

John Fury has claimed that a verbal agreement for his son Tommy to fight against Jake Paul in February has been made following the pair's heated exchange on Sunday night.

It comes after some entertaining scenes as Fury and Paul had a heated exchange following the Love Island star's fight against Rolly Lambert. It was a hastily arranged fight for Fury, with the 15-1-0 cruiserweight Lambert stepping in at the last minute following Paul Bamba's withdrawal.

Paul was commentating on the DAZN broadcast of the fight, which took place at the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs Deji. During the contest he made a number of derogatory remarks which were directed towards Fury but did not hint that any agreement had been made.

It would be the third time that an agreement for the pair to fight has been reached, with Fury having now withdrawn twice from previous arrangements. Firstly, he withdrew from a fight last December citing a combination of injury and illness before Visa issues prevented Fury from travelling to New York to fulfil obligations for their second arranged fight in August.

In the post-match press conference, John Fury, who was involved in the post-fight shenanigans, revealed that he had cornered Jake Paul's manager to establish a 'verbal agreement' for a fight to take place. He told reporters: "Can I say one thing here though. I have looked him down, backed him up into a corner, and check-mated him. He has agreed to a February bout.

"He shook me hand and he gave me his word of honour, his manager. It's happening in February. I said 'listen if you back out you'll never live it down in your life'. You can't break a man's handshake.

"Contracts mean nothing to me, but a handshake means my word. He's given me his word, his manager, we fight in February."
