Tommy Fury suffers major blow as Jake Paul camp give verdict on rescheduled fight

Tommy Fury’s hopes of facing Jake Paul look to be over after his opponents’ camp ruled out rescheduling the bout.

Fury and his team had been hoping they could reorganise after the original fight had to be cancelled following the Manchester-born fighter’s decision to pull out.

A broken rib and a chest infection were cited as Fury’s withdrawal was confirmed just days before the fight was set to go ahead in Florida.

Paul will instead face Tyron Woodley in a rematch, with his trainer BJ Flores confirming they will be taking on another fight after this weekend’s bout.

Fury will hope he will be the opponent being lined up, although Flores has seemingly ruled any possibility of entering negotiations again.

Asked for his reaction to Fury pulling out, Flores told iFL TV : “I wasn’t surprised. The whole camp we kept saying ‘just make it to the fight Tommy’.

“Every day we got closer and closer and he didn’t pull out and we were like ‘okay, he’s really not going to pull out’.

“Then we get to two weeks before [the fight], and finally the news comes that he’s pulled out.

“I thought he would pull out the whole time, and unfortunately I was right. I wished he wouldn’t have, Jake really wanted to get Tommy Fury, but we’ll see what happens in the future.

“I think the Tommy Fury fight’s out now, Jake doesn’t want to mess with him, he doesn’t want to be messed around with, and we’ve got bigger things in 2022.”

Flores added: “Nothing’s official, but we’re not going to be waiting on him. We’re going to do another fight next after this, we’re not looking ahead, we don’t talk about it because we’ve got a very determined Tyron Woodley coming at us first so we’re not going to talk about the next fight.

“After we get through this fight, after we do what we’ve got to do, then we’ll see what the next best opportunity is for Jake.”

Flores’ comments come after Paul also cast his own doubts over whether a fight with Fury will ever happen.

"I don't think a fight will ever happen. I don't want to give him the opportunity. He had his shot,” Paul told Showtime TV.

"I'd like to see him have to fight 20 more times to even get the same payday he was going to get versus me. Sorry Tommy, it's not going to happen."
