Tommy Fury name change to 'Tommy Fumbles' contract clause explained for Jake Paul fight

Last month, Tommy Fury and Jake Paul finally agreed to fight one another with a date now set.

The two will clash in the ring on December 18 in Tampa, Florida.

The social media star turned boxer Paul is undefeated at 4-0 in the ring, as is Fury - the half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson - 7-0.

Throughout the negotiations, the two have gone back and forth in spats across social media.

Coming from a highly-respected boxing family, the bookes have Fury as favourite to win the fight - with his corner seemingly very sure about him coming out victorious.

Tyson, has told Tommy he’ll have to change his name and retire from boxing if he ends up losing to Paul.

“If Tommy can't splatter Jake Paul, I'll retire him from boxing myself. If he can't beat Jake Paul, forget about boxing.

“Because he's got ambitions of being a world champion, never mind beating some YouTube guy.

“It's a great fight to watch, it's a spectacle. But Tommy – his name's Fury. If he can't beat Jake Paul, I'll have to change his name.”

After this, Paul challenged Fury to a bet.

What does the bet entail?

Paul has shared images of an official contract which is to be sent to Fury ahead of the fight.

The contract states that Fury will have to change his name to 'Tommy Fumbles' for one year if Paul beats the Manchester-born fighter.

If Fury wins though, the former Love Island contestant would net him half a million dollars from Paul's purse.

Fury has apparently verbally agreed to sign the unique contract.

The two had been expected to officially agree on the bet last weekend at the press conference but Fury had to fly home to England for family reasons.

Fury's promoter Frank Warren previously insisted that the bet had not been included in the contract signed by the fighters but Paul's management have assured fans that the pair will shake hands on it.

“Mr Paul contractually agreed to have his guaranteed purse reduced by $500,000 and paid to Mr Fury by Showtime within two business days of the fight should Jake lose," Paul's manager Nakisa Bidarian told TalkSPORT.

“Quid pro quo, Mr Paul contractually required for Mr Fury to have $500,000 of his purse held back until Mr Fury legally became Mr Fumbles.

“Mr Fury was afforded 30 days to make the name change. Mr Fury did not agree and desired for the bet to be a handshake."

What Fury has said about the bet?

Fury hasn't backed down from the offer, replying on his own Instagram: “We have a deal. Get that sent over to my lawyers ASAP right now.

“We’ll get that looked at and sorted because there’s not a chance in hell you are winning this fight. You’re leaving on a stretcher. You’re getting knocked spark out and you know it. Get it over to me now.”

What Paul has said about the bet?

"I offered Fury to change his name to Tommy Fumbles or put up $500,000 of his purse if he loses," Paul told ESPN.

"He chose to agree to change his name. Guess he puts more value on money than he does his own family name.

"Maybe he knows his family is disowning him once he loses, so money and [Tommy's girlfriend and UK TV personality] Molly [Mae-Hague] is all he's going to have left."
