Tommy Fury brands Carl Frampton 'stupid' after Jake Paul prediction

Tommy Fury has called out his former boxing idol Carl Frampton after the former Manchester boxer tipped Jake Paul to get the better of him. An incident earlier this week saw Tommy and Tyson Fury's father, John, clash with Frampton over his claim that Paul would defeat Tommy.

Frampton was among a number of ex-fighters and pundits who backed Paul to cause an upset. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "To be honest, I don’t really know much about them. I’ve seen Jake Paul, little highlights of him. I’ve seen Tommy Fury, I was actually working for BT for one of his fights as a pundit. I think that if you put a gun to my head, I think I fancy Jake Paul in that fight, if I’m being honest."

Three months later, John Fury confronted Frampton on his pick. He said: "You think Jake Paul's a boxer?" he asked, to which Frampton replied, "I don't think he's a boxer." Fury replied by stating: "Then why do you think he can beat Tommy? Answer the question, because you disappointed me. I supported you and I looked up to you"

Frampton responded with: "I'm just trying to be honest," as Fury said: "Honest?! Honest?! Saying a YouTuber could beat a Fury? Are you p*****?"

Frampton: "I'm trying to be honest; I'm not p*****." Fury finished by saying: "I don't want to talk to you. I'm turning my back on you, I don't want to talk to you. Get your facts right or get off the job."

Fury and Paul had been scheduled to fight one another in December, but Fury was forced to withdraw from the bout after suffering a broken rib and struggling with a bacterial chest infection. Instead, Paul's former opponent Woodley stepped up to replace Fury and Paul landed a knockout shot on the former UFC champion. Fury has stated that he hopes that the two can reschedule their fight in 2022, whilst previously stating he's looking to box at least three or four times.

And speaking on the confrontation between his father and Frampton, Fury said that he had no time for him: "Picking a YouTuber over a boxer and picking somebody else over your fellow countryman? I don't know where his heads at - it's very stupid for him to say that. I used to look up to him and watch a lot of his fights, but he's a man I don't have time for."

Fury has stated that he hopes that the two can reschedule their fight in 2022, whilst previously stating he's looking to box at least three or four times. It remains to be seen when Fury will fight next, but many expect him to do so on Tyson's undercard on April 23 when he faces Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium.
