Tommy Cannon's This Morning interview leaves viewers heartbroken as reacts to Bobby Ball's death

This Morning viewers were left heartbroken on Friday as a devastated Tommy Cannon reacted to the death of his dear friend and side-kick Bobby Ball.

Bobby's family revealed on Thursday morning that the much-loved comic had died at the age of 76, after testing positive for coronavirus.

"At first it was thought to be a chest infection but a test proved positive for Covid-19," Bobby's manager said in a statement.

"His wife Yvonne said the hospital and staff could not have been more wonderful, as they were outstanding in their care of duty and they did everything possible for him and she cannot praise them enough."

A shell shocked Tommy appeared from his York home to speak to This Morning presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford and the hearts of everyone watching at home immediately went out to him.

The 82-year-old said: "It's an awful time, I don't know where I am; I can't make sense of it.

"I can't believe he's passed away, I love him to bits."

After Eamonn and Ruth spoke about Bobby's sons tribute to him and their recollections of performing alongside him, Tommy added: "I've got some great memories to look back on and I know one day I'll meet him again.

"He's up there with his pals - Eddie Large, Bernard Manning - all the greats and he'll be shining bright.

Tommy's poignant interview came after his tearjerking tweet on Thursday in the hours after Bobby's death was announced.

He posted: "I’m absolutely devastated, I’ve lost my partner, my best friend and the funniest man I know. Thank you for your messages, prayers and love."

Emotional This Morning viewers were quick to pass on their condolences to the famous funnyman with one tweeting: "Awful seeing Tommy Cannon on #thismorning he's heartbroken," and another posting: "Oh Tommy Cannon is breaking my heart talking about Bobby Ball. There's friendship and then there's what they had. A lifetime."

A third commented: "Tommy cannon just been speaking on This morning about Bobby! He is so gutted to lose his friend, it was so sad! Comedy greats."
