Tommy Bowe admits he misses adrenaline rush of rugby but presenting live TV takes the edge off

Former rugby ace Tommy Bowe admits he misses the adrenaline rush of the game – but presenting a live TV show helps take the
edge off.

The legendary Ireland winger is switching off his alarm clock at an unholy hour of the morning to make his way to Virgin Media’s studios for Ireland AM.

And he admits while presenting live breakfast telly can’t be compared to running out in an Ireland shirt to a packed Aviva stadium, there is a shared adrenaline rush to both experiences.

The 36-year-old, from Co Monaghan, said: “Live TV isn’t for the fainthearted. It’s crazy. Your brain is just going a million miles an hour because you’re live on television.

“You say one you wrong thing you’re in massive hot water or you ask the wrong question, or you look like a complete dope asking a stupid question. I was covering the US election on Wednesday and Thursday and I never knew anything about it before this.”

Tommy and his wife Lucy welcomed their new baby Jamie at the start of the pandemic.

He added: “Everything ground to a halt so it was actually perfect timing because it meant I got to spend four months with my wife, my daughter and new son.”
