Tomic out of Open after Shapovalov loss

Bernard Tomic succumbed to Denis Shapovalov in straight sets at the Australian Open. (AAP)

Bernard Tomic's Australian Open campaign has ended with a second round 6-1 6-3 6-2 defeat to Canadian Denis Shapovalov.

The 11th seeded left-hander had far too many weapons for Tomic, who put in a spirited effort early in the second set but as the match progressed appeared sluggish and disinterested.

Former world No.17 Tomic will at least get a rankings boost after getting through an arduous qualifying campaign and then the first round, moving to the cusp of the world's top 200.
