'Tomb Raider' Prime Video Series Adaptation Casts Sophie Turner as Lara Croft, Names Showrunners

Years after the confirmation of the "Tomb Raider" series adaptation, the actress to portray Lara Croft has finally been announced, and it is none other than Sophie Turner.

The actress, who has had a colorful career since her debut in "Game of Thrones," is now set to lead the new show under Amazon Prime Video's development.

Part of the latest report also reveals the showrunners who will helm the new series' development and production.

'Tomb Raider' Series Casts Sophie Turner as Lara Croft

Deadline shared a new report which reveals that Sophie Turner has now been cast to lead the series. Turner will take on the role of Lara Croft, the main heroine of the action-adventure franchise.

The franchise has seen several film adaptations before. There were the early 2000s "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" movies led by Angelina Jolie. 2018 saw the release of "Tomb Raider," which had Alicia Vikander stepping up as the heroine.

While both characters had their own unique style of portraying Lara Croft, this Prime Video adaptation would be the first time that Croft would be portrayed by an English actress.

That being said, Turner has paid tribute to both actresses who went before her, saying that there are "massive shoes to fill."

Prime Video's 'Tomb Raider' Showrunners Revealed

Amazon MGM Studios later shared the official announcement of Turner's role as Lara Croft, with the company also naming the showrunners who will join the crew to develop the upcoming series.

Amazon MGM hired Phoebe Waller-Bridge to serve as "Tomb Raider's" creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner of the series.

She will be joined by Chad Hodge as the co-showrunner and executive producer of the upcoming adaptation.

Amazon MGM Studios also named Jonathan Van Tulleken as the director and executive producer of the show.

It has already been two years since Amazon MGM Studios first announced that they are developing a series adaptation for the "Tomb Raider" franchise.

The reports also revealed that "Tomb Raider" will begin production by January 2026, and alongside the executives mentioned above, Story Kitchen and the franchise's game developer, Crystal Dynamics, will also join in its development.

Alongside this, Engadget reported that a new "Tomb Raider" game is in the pipeline, with Crystal Dynamics still developing it, but Amazon will now serve as its publisher.
