Tomato sale at subsidised prices in Andhra Pradesh

VIJAYAWADA: In a bid to offset the surging price of tomatoes, the agriculture marketing department has decided to sell stocks at subsidised price at a special counter at rythu bazaars.

The price of high quality tomatoes has touched 86 per kilogram at wholesale markets and the retail price has crossed 100 per kilogram. Agriculture and marketing minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy directed the officials to take steps to control the price.

“We will buy tomatoes from various states and sell them at rythu bazaars. Subsidised prices will be fixed daily and limited quantities will be supplied,” Govardhan Reddy told the media.
