West Ham manager David Moyes has stated that Slavia Prague midfielder Tomas Soucek is undergoing a medical ahead of a £16.9million transfer.
The midfielder has been a rumoured target for the club for a while now, and following Slavia Prague's confirmation on Monday that a deal was in the works, the Hammers are closing in on a transfer.
The 24-year-old is in London and undergoing a medical with the club after a deal worth €20million (£16.9million) was agreed between the two sides.
Last week football.london reported that West Ham had identified Soucek as a target, and were confident of agreeing an initial loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.
But after seeing a bid of €15million (£12.7million) turned down, the Hammers returned with an improved offer, and Moyes revealed in his press conference that the move is almost complete.
"I hope he is in the middle of his medical," Moyes said when asked about the deal for Soucek. "He fits the profile of the player I want for West Ham.
"We are in a difficult period where we need experienced players as well: he has 25 caps for the Czech Republic."
As well as signing Soucek, Moyes also stated that the club are actively attempting to seal one more deal before Friday's deadline, but would only give cryptic hints at who may be incoming.
"We have a firm bid in for another player," Moyes added. But when pressed on details for the potential deal, he would only state: "It’s not a striker."
