CHICAGO _ The Bulls named Tomas Satoransky their starting point guard on Wednesday, a move that had been expected since the team traded for him in July.
Satoranksy joins a starting unit that includes Zach LaVine (shooting guard), Otto Porter (small forward) Lauri Markkanen (power forward) and Wendell Carter Jr. (center).
Through three preseason games, Satoransky has averaged 8.3 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and shot 58.8% _ a small sample size but his best preseason numbers as he enters his fourth year. He has averaged 6.6 points on 48.9% shooting, along with 3.7 assists, during the regular season. He averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 assists for the Czech Republic during the FIBA World Cup in September.
Coach Jim Boylen said Kris Dunn will come off the bench with the second unit. Boylen intends to mix in Dunn and rookie Coby White with Satoransky, who can play either guard spot and small forward.
Boylen and players have praised Satoransky for his ability to read defenses on the fly, direct ball movement and help push a fast-paced offense.
"Very versatile, can play many positions, and his knowledge of the game," Otto Porter, who was Satoransky's teammate in Washington, said earlier this month. "It continues to grow and it continues to get better, and that's impressed me.
"Just great having him besides me again because I know what he's going to bring to the table."
