Tomas Kalas teases Bristol City fans with another Instagram post as Robins dangle huge carrot to sign Chelsea defender

Bristol City fans are excited about Tomas Kalas' latest Instagram post as the coveted central defender has posted highlights of his time at the Robins.

A highlights reel of Kalas' fine defending - see it below - across the 2018/19 Championship season is accompanied by a picture of the centre-back in the purple and lime kit of City.

And that makes it some six posts about his time at Bristol City in the last four weeks for the centre-back who is rumoured to be leaving Chelsea on a permanent deal this summer and is believed to be keen on a return to the South West.

Bristol Live understands the Robins are willing to make Kalas the highest paid player at the club if a deal can be agreed for the 26-year-old to return to Ashton Gate. A substantial carrot to tempt the 19-cap Czech Republic international with.

However, the player, who spent last week on holiday in Portugal, is assessing his options in the wake of interest from elsewhere, as confirmed by head coach Lee Johnson.

The next contract offer may well be one of the player's most important decisions to make given his age and the likelihood of leaving Stamford Bridge after nine years with the Blues which bizarrely makes him their longest-serving player.

Johnson explained , any deal is likely to be expensive give the volume of suitors for the defender who has previously secured promotion from the Championship while on loan at Middlesbrough and Fulham.

"It's difficult to talk about that one, because he’s not our player," said Johnson to host Geoff Twentyman.

"I’d love to sign Tomas, we’re trying to get him but we’re in a number of clubs who will be after Tomas, he’s a quality player and of course that doesn’t come cheap, he knows that.

"Saying that, he really enjoyed his time here and we’ve got a great relationship in terms of me and him, he’s got a great partnership with Webster and Bailey Wright so he’s got those connections.

"I’m hopeful, but it’s a tough one because it won’t be cheap," said Johnson.

As for Kalas himself, when we asked the former Middlesbrough and Fulham man during last season about his long-term future he remained coy.

"Obviously I wish that I could find a club to settle down at for a long time, but I don’t really mind going on loans," he explained.

City have a tough job on their hands here but if the signing of the influential Kalas - who helped the Robins have the fifth best defence in the Championship last season - can be completed it would be a big statement ahead of the 2019/20 season and key for a run at promotion.
