Tom Walker releases Boris Johnson protest song after fans send it viral on TikTok

Scots singer Tom Walker has officially released his protest song about Boris Johnson and the Tory government.

Fans were demanding the star, who was born in Scotland and raised in Manchester, to release the protest track as a single and "show the UK Government what's up".

Tom pulls no punches with his hilarious but hard-hitting lyrics about the state of the country and its leaders, and the tune proved a massive hit on TikTok.

Today he announced he's releasing Number 10 to the UK charts and he sent his thanks to followers for their efforts to make it happen after the track racked up 1.5million views on his page.

He said: "Youve convinced me , number 10 it's coming out today, I've managed to convince my label to let me release it, absolute legends, I hope you guys like this."

Yesterday, announcing the exciting news to his 628.8k TikTok followers, the musician revealed he was "speechless" at the reaction to the song.

He said: "I'm speechless, you guys have absolutely blown this Number 10 tune up and I said in the comments, if we get one million views - which I didn't think was going to happen - then I'll put it out and over the three videos I've posted, we've hit 1.5 million views and the comments have just been insane.

"Everybody like 'we need this song' 'we have to release this' 'get it to number 1' so why not, I'm putting it out and to anyone out there thinking 'it's a marketing labelling ploy for the label' it isn't, I've had to convince them, so don't be letting me down!"

The song was inspired after the Prime Minister was left clinging to his job amid a Tory party revolt earlier in the month.

Referencing the ongoing cost-of-living crisis across the UK, as well as the recent 'Partygate' scandal, Tom sings "It's one rule for us, no rules for them, it's a good old life down at number 10, living it up with no consequence".

Leave A Light On singer Tom's followers couldn't get enough of his brutal dig at the politicians in charge, with many demanding the star release it properly so they can send it to the top of the charts.

He's now said he wants to "try and team up with a food bank" to donate the proceeds.

Tom's new release comes as he announces a special collaboration with leading mental health charity Mind for a unique series of pop up events around the country to help raise awareness of the ongoing mental health crisis and direct people to support.

Tom has commissioned a special bench, stemming from ‘Talking Benches’, a series of spaces Mind is hosting at various UK festivals this summer for people to talk and listen to others about mental health.

“It’s an honour to collaborate with Mind and help support their vital work around mental health”, said Tom. “I would encourage anyone who is struggling with a mental health problem to reach out to Mind. They are working to make sure that nobody has to face their problems alone. Getting the right support is crucial in the fight for mental health”

Tom will be taking the bench to poignant locations around the country for a series of conversations focusing on the topic of mental health, in addition to providing some positive moments for friends and fans of Mind and Tom.

These will include intimate gigs on the bench as well as recording episodes for his inspirational podcast series ‘Memories That Made Us’, featuring a host of high profile guests and exploring the power of recall, and moments that have shaped us. The whole process will be documented and shared through Mind and Tom Walker channels.

The first bench performances will take place during the week commencing June 20.
