Tom Telesco has spoken to Brandon Mebane’s agents about possible return to Chargers

The Chargers have a need at defensive tackle. They have a couple free agents who were all contributors in 2018. Between Corey Liuget, Brandon Mebane, Darius Philon, and Damion Square, that leaves Justin Jones as the only defensive tackle to play quality snaps on the roster for the Chargers last year. For reference, Jones played a shade under 29 percent of the snaps.

That is a lot of snaps to replace.

Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said during his press conference at the NFL combine that he has spoken to the representatives of Mebane about a possible return.

Mebane went through some pain that nobody will ever ben able to describe this past year. If he chose to retire, nobody would blame him for it.

Though the value he has on the field is limited in today’s game, Mebane brings much more to the locker room when the Chargers are not on the field. Leadership matters, especially when you go through the typical turmoil that the Chargers do on a yearly basis. For that, the team should bring Mebane back.
