Tom Rogic wanted by Zenit St Petersburg as Celtic ace is targeted for £9m swoop

Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic is a £9million target for big-spending Zenit St Petersburg.

The Australian midfielder still has four years left on the fresh Hoops deal he penned a year ago.

And it's understood the Parkhead club are in no mind to flog the 26-year-old who was signed by Neil Lennon in 2013.

But Zenit - who knocked the Scottish champions out of the Europa League two seasons ago - are preparing to test Celtic's resolve having watched the player for the past 18 months.

The Russian Premier League champions reckon Rogic can add a new dimension to their side ahead of their Champions League tilt.

There's also substantial interest from an English Premier League side and they could join a bidding war.

Rogic scored six goals in 39 appearances last season but missed chunks of the campaign through injury and international duty.

However he has been a key man in recent seasons coming up with decisive goals in big games.

Lennon is desperate to hold onto his star players as the Hoops chase down nine in a row and Celtic value Rogic in the £15m bracket.

Speaking after penning his new deal last summer Rogic said: "I’m happy, I’m settled, I think I’ve played my best football in the past two seasons at the club and under the manager there.

“So it’s been a stable place for me to play, develop, win trophies, enjoy success and be tested in a lot of big games.

“I’ve played in front of a number of big crowds, none better than at home with my club, but as a player you need to remain pretty calm and focused, rather than getting caught up in surroundings.”
