Tom Rogic told to quit Celtic as Australia No.2 insists it's time to 'look elsewhere'

Australia No.2 Rene Meulenstein has urged Tom Rogic to quit Celtic in a bid to keep his international dreams alive.

The former Manchester United assistant was at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Wednesday to run the rule over Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes as the Socceroos weigh up a call-up for the striker.

Rogic also caught his eye as he came off the bench to net a last-gasp equaliser in the 2-2 draw but Meulenstein reckons now is the time for the Wizard of Oz to leave Parkhead.

The 26-year-old - who is under contract at Parkhead until the summer of 2023 - has spoken at length about his love for Celtic but the Dutchman reckons a fresh start is needed.

Meulenstein, speaking to the Scottish Sun , said: “Tommy shouldn’t be on the bench. He’s a player who should play every week.

“It’s not my decision to make but it’s a shame for us, as we want all our top players to play as much football as possible.

“Maybe come the summer, there might be a move for him coming up. I’m sure there are clubs looking at him.

“Celtic are a great club and Tommy always speaks with such passion about them.

“But sometimes things move in a different way and I think if he doesn’t get regular football, he probably needs to look elsewhere."

Rogic has battled a host of injuries over the past 18 months as looks to regain the form that made him Brendan Rodgers' main man in big games.
