Tom Rogic opts out of Australia squad to concentrate on Celtic Euro qualifiers

Celtic attacker Tom Rogic has decided against representing Australia this summer in order to focus on getting back to full fitness for the Hoops.

The Aussies have four World Cup qualifiers in June which are all being played in Kuwait, against the hosts, Chinese Tapei, Nepal and Jordan, and Rogic could have surpassed the 50 cap mark by playing in three of them.

However, after starting just 10 Premiership matches throughout the 2020/21 campaign, the 28-year-old is keen to get his club career back on track with the Hoops under the incoming new manager, as Australia boss Graham Arnold revealed after picking his latest squad.

Arnold explained: "Tom Rogic has a minor ankle injury to deal with and the only time he can get properly fit is now.

"He's hoping to use the close season to prepare for Celtic's European games. It won't be held against him in future."

Whilst Rogic won't be playing for Australia next month, Hibs duo Martin Boyle and Jackson Irvine are both in the squad for Australia's first competitive match since November 2019 ,which will see them play four matches in 12 days following a training camp in the UAE.
