Tom Pearce seals Leeds United exit as left-back signs for Championship rivals

Leeds United have confirmed that Tom Pearce has joined Championship rivals Wigan Athletic on a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old leaves for an undisclosed fee after making ten senior appearances for Leeds, netting one goal.

After coming up through the Thorp Arch ranks after joining from Everton as a 16-year-old, Pearce broke into the first-team under Paul Heckingbottom over the second half of the 2017-18 campaign and would earn his first England youth call-up with the under-20s.

Despite signing a new four-year deal last summer, Pearce has struggled for first-team football under Marcelo Bielsa.

With the likes of Barry Douglas and Gjanni Alioski ahead of him in the pecking order at left-back, he joined Scunthorpe on loan for the second half of last year before being made available for transfer this summer and Wigan came in late to see off Barnsley to his signature. He has signed a three-year deal with the Latics.

Pearce will be hoping to face his former side when Leeds make the trip to Wigan on Saturday August 17.
