Tom Lockyer omitted from Wales squad for Armenia and Turkey games but David Brooks returns

Luton Town star Tom Lockyer has not been named in Rob Page's 25-player squad for next month's games against Armenia and Turkey after the Hatters man collapsed and was sent to hospital during the Championship play-off final.

Early on in the game at Wembley, centre-back Lockyer went down to the floor with no-one near him, prompting hugely concerning scenes. He was taken off on a stretcher while his parents made their way down the tunnel at Wembley before being taken to hospital for further checks.

After Luton won in dramatic fashion - a penalty shootout - Lockyer's father posted a photo of the Cardiff-born defender celebrating from his hospital bed.

Lockyer, who was included in the Championship team of the year, added in his own social media post that he was in hospital "under precaution" and further tests would be undertaken yesterday (Monday).

There is a place, however, for David Brooks. Brooks, who has not played for Wales in nearly two years, the final game of Wales' Euro 2020 game against Denmark in June 2021, following his stage-two Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis and a hamstring issue last year.

Page had already stated that the 25-year-old would be selected for Wales' summer fixtures, having returned to first-team action at Bournemouth.

Elsewhere, Neco Williams has also been called up after picking up a season-ending jaw injury for Nottingham Forest last month. Captain Aaron Ramsey is also included and Brennan Johnson and Ben Davies return, having been left out of the March squad due to injuries.

Uncapped quartet Joe Low, Morgan Fox, Luke Harris and Liam Cullen have also been named in the Wales squad. Bristol City defender Low, the son of former Cardiff City midfielder Josh Low, is called up to the squad for the first time, having represented Wales at youth level.

There is no place for Sorba Thomas nor League One player of the year Aaron Collins in Wales' squad.

Page will hope his side can use their positive March performances as a springboard as they head into these two fixtures. Their opening two qualifiers saw them earn a crucial draw away to Croatia thanks to a last-gasp Nathan Broadhead strike, before a 1-0 win over Latvia in Cardiff three days later.

Wales take on Armenia at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday, June 16 before travelling to Samsun to play Turkey on Monday, June 19. Wales are currently second in the group, behind Croatia on goal difference.
