Tom Jones, 80, says he was 'first in line' to have coronavirus vaccine

Tom Jones has shared his delight at being "first in line" to get the coronavirus vaccine.

The Welsh singer, 80, said that thanks to his age he was one of the first to be given the new drug.

Speaking during his appearance on Jools Holland's Annual Hootennany show on New Year's Eve, Sir Tom reassured fans the vaccine was nothing to fear.

He said: "I've had the jab already. That's one good thing about being 80, you're first in line for the jab."

And he said the vaccine was nothing to be araid of: "It was fine - it was just like getting the flu jab," assuring Jools that "it wasn't a black market one, it was the real deal."

Tom said there was much to be positive about in the new year.

He said: "I recorded an album just before lockdown at the beginning of the year. During lockdown, we've been mixing it and putting it together."

More than 500,000 elderly people and healthcare workers have been given the first round of the Pfizer/BioNTech jab so far.

The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has a 95per cent efficiency and requires two jabs, after which patients will be fully protected around one week later.

Among the growing cohort that have been given the first of two required jabs, are a number of celebrities that qualified for the vaccination.

Several familiar faces have also taken to social media to open up about their experience of getting the jab and praise the work of NHS staff.

Great British Bake Off star Prue Leith, 80, Lord Of The Rings star Sir Ian McKellen, 81, Rock and roll legend Marty Wilde, 81, are just some of those to share their happiness after receiving the vaccine.
