Tom Holland has started filming his fourth Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the actor is sharing his thoughts about returning to the famous red suit. The 29-year-old actor began shooting scenes in Glasgow, Scotland on Friday, August 8, marking the start of production for the highly awaited sequel.
Sony Pictures and Holland released a video from the movie set over the weekend. The footage shows Holland’s first day of filming and includes scenes of him meeting young fans while working on an action sequence with a moving armored vehicle. The video also shows Holland talking with the movie’s director, Dustin Daniel Cretton.
In the behind-the-scenes video, Holland reflects on his experience wearing the Spider-Man costume again. “Putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow,” Holland says in the clip. He explains that this marks his fourth first day of filming a Spider-Man movie and notes how special it feels to have fans present on set for the first time during day one of production.
Filming locations and cast details revealed
The Glasgow filming location has been set up to look like New York City, which is Peter Parker’s hometown in the movies. This follows the pattern of previous Spider-Man films that often use different cities to represent New York. The production team has worked to make Scotland’s largest city appear as the familiar streets where Spider-Man swings through the city.
Holland’s real-life fiancée Zendaya is returning for the new movie. As the MCU’s Peter Parker continues his journey, fans can revisit how Holland’s Spider-Man originally got his powers in this iteration.. The couple got engaged around the holidays in 2024 and were recently seen together on the movie set in London. Even though the previous film Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with Zendaya’s character MJ losing her memories of Peter Parker, she will reprise her role in Brand New Day.
Several other actors are joining or returning to the cast. Jacob Batalon and Jon Favreau will return from previous Spider-Man movies. New cast members include Liza Colon-Zayas from The Bear and Sadie Sink from Stranger Things. According to reports, Mark Ruffalo will also appear in the film as Bruce Banner, bringing his Marvel character into the Spider-Man story.
The movie will also feature returning villains. Michael Mando will reprise his role as Scorpion, which he first played in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. Jon Bernthal will return as Frank Castle, also known as Punisher, a character he played in Netflix’s Daredevil series and Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026. This will be the first Spider-Man movie since 2021’s No Way Home, which was a major success at the box office. Fans will get to see Holland and Zendaya together twice in summer 2026, as they will also star in Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey, which comes to theaters on July 18, 2026. The couple joins an impressive roster of MCU veterans in Nolan’s mysterious project.
