Tom Holland opens up about failed Bond spin-off pitch amid rumours he could play 007

Tom Holland has proved himself to be king of the 2021 box-office as his latest Spider-Man film, No Way Home, became a worldwide smash, raked in one billion dollars within days of release and trounced all other movies – including Daniel Craig’s James Bond swan song No Time To Die.

But despite being blockbuster dynamite, the 25-year-old actor has revealed he is terrible at coming up with film ideas himself – explaining that a pitch for a Bond prequel was laughed off by film bosses.

Tom – who has starred as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man since 2016 – has been one of the many names linked to James Bond as a possible replacement for 53-year-old Daniel, who has now quit his role as the 007 spy.

However, many feel the fresh faced actor is too young to play the iconic martini swilling spy – but the actor himself revealed he had a prequel idea he pitched to Bond bosses but sadly the idea fell flat.

He told Total Film: “I had a meeting, after or during Spider-Man 2 [Far From Home], with Sony to pitch this idea of a young Bond film that I’d come up with.

“It was the origin story of James Bond. It didn’t really make sense. It didn’t work.

“It was the dream of a young kid, and I don’t think the Bond estate were particularly interested.”

While Tom’s idea has been rejected, the Bond estate have authorised a series of books titled Young Bond and set around the future spy’s adventures whilst a schoolboy at Eton.

The first five books in the series were penned by Charlie Higson and hit book shelved in 2005 – while further novels have been penned by Steve Cole, with the most recent coming out in 2017.

Even more content based on the Young Bond series has been churned out – with graphic novels, games and a travel guide inspired by the books being produced.

No Time To Die was Daniel Craig’s final outing as Bond – arguably seeing him going out on something of a whimper compared to previous outings as the film made under £570 million at the box office against a budget of just over £220 million.

In contrast, his previous film, Spectre, made over £647 million against a budget of £180 million – and before that, Skyfall made over one billion dollars (over £735 million) at the box office against a budget of £110 million.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man No Way Home has made over $1.4 billion USD (£1 billion) at the box office against a budget of £147 million – in less than one month since release.

Fans of Tom Holland can see him in computer game inspired action film Uncharted next month – in which he plays fortune hunter Nathan Drake.

The British actor Executive Produced the film – which co-stars action hero Mark Wahlberg, Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas and Game Of Thrones star Pilou Asbæk.
