Tom Hiddleston will star in Betrayal to complete Jamie Lloyd's Pinter season

Golden Globe, Olivier and Evening Standard Theatre Award winner Tom Hiddleston is set to star in Harold Pinter’s Betrayal next year.

Forming the culmination of the current Pinter at the Pinter season, in which all of the playwright’s short works are being performed to mark 10 years since his death, Hiddleston takes on the role of Robert from March 5-June 1.

Betrayal, considered one of Pinter’s greatest plays, follows a seven year romance in reverse chronological order. It was first produced at the National Theatre in 1978, starring Penelope Wilton and Michael Gambon, both of whom have appeared in the Pinter at the Pinter season so far.

Yesterday, Hiddleston shared a cryptic teaser video on Twitter for Betrayal, leading to speculation from fans.

Hiddleston returns to the London stage following acclaimed performances as Hamlet in Kenneth Branagh’s production last year and his 2014 Evening Standard Theatre Award winning role in Coriolanus at the Donmar Warehouse.

He performed last month in a gala celebrating what would have been Pinter's 88th birthday, alongside Kit Harington, Kristin Scott Thomas and Simon Russell Beale.

Jamie Lloyd is directing the production, the cast of which has yet to be announced.

Hiddleston said: “Betrayal is a masterpiece. Jamie Lloyd’s Pinter at the Pinter season is terrific and I am so pleased that he’s asked me to be part of it.”

Tickets go on sale at 9am on November 30.
