Tom Heaton signs for Manchester United

Tom Heaton has become Manchester United's first signing of the summer, signing a two-year contract.

Heaton, 35, started his career in the United academy and left permanently in 2012 but has re-signed for the club following his release by Aston Villa.

United have already agreed to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £72.9million but Heaton is their first official addition of the summer.

"For me to have the opportunity to come back after spending 13 great years here as a kid, it’s an incredible feeling and I’m really, really excited to get started," Heaton said.

“I’m just seeing it as a fantastic opportunity as I still feel I’ve got an awful lot to give and I’ve got the bit between my teeth.

“I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running. I feel in great shape and I’m looking forward to coming in to compete with the other goalkeepers."

The former England goalkeeper played for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the United reserves and will provide support for Dean Henderson and David de Gea next season.

Heaton has never played for United but the Chester-born custodian could get the chance to finally make his debut for the club over the next two seasons.
