Tom Heaton agrees Man Utd transfer after striking deal

Tom Heaton has agreed to join Manchester United.

Former England keeper Heaton, 35, will move to Old Trafford as a free agent as his contract at Aston Villa expires this summer.

That will bring quality back-up and competition for United’s keepers as they already have David de Gea and Dean Henderson in a fierce battle to be No1.

But Heaton is a hugely popular figure in football, well known as a big character who was also good enough to be a regular England squad member to win three caps.

Heaton had six years at Burnley, has been at Villa for two years but lost his place as No1 to Emiliano Martinez but will go to United now as a free agent.

United have held talks in the past few weeks but the deal now looks done and agreed.
