Tom Hardy filming in Cardiff: Pictures show city turned into snowy American scene for Havoc

A street in Cardiff Bay has been transformed into a snowy American scene as filming takes place for a new Netflix thriller starring Tom Hardy.

Filming for Havoc has been taking place across various locations in South Wales since May. Residents and business owners in Bute Street were sent a letter from Netflix last week about filming taking place over four nights between September 27 to September 30.

The letter to residents says that a road closure on Bute Street will take place from 4pm each day so that fake snow can be spread on the ground and American road signs can be put up.

Photographs from the scene show Tom Hardy on set as Bute Street is transformed into a snowy scene. The ground is covered in fake snow and American cars, police cars and a fire engine parked along the road.

Structures to look like the base of a bridge were also installed on the pavement of Bute Street last week, as well as next to the entrance of Customs House. These structures are also visible in some of the shots.

Havoc tells the story of a drug deal gone awry, leading a detective to fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician's estranged son, while untangling his city's dark web of conspiracy and corruption.

The Netflix thriller is directed by Hirwaun-born Gareth Evans, best known for the television series Gangs of London.

Filming has seen big names, including Tom Hardy himself of course, and Forest Whitaker , exploring Wales. Whitaker posted pictures of himself enjoying the scenery around Wales as he took a break from filming. Luis Guzman posted a picture of himself in a Cardiff restaurant with Lin Manuel Miranda. And Hardy himself has been happy to pose for pictures with fans in his moments off filming.
