Tom Hardy is lined up to make three more Mad Max movies, after the completion of Mad Max: Fury Road, it has been revealed.
An interview with Esquire magazine by writer Miranda Collinge claims: “He’s attached to a further three Mad Max films”, though without quoting the actor directly. Hardy then says “Everything’s based on figures and how things are perceived. Inevitably, it’s a business” – which suggests that Hardy’s Fury Road contract contains options for future movies depending on commercial outcomes, rather than confirmed green lights of future productions.
Variety magazine report that they contacted the film’s US backers, Warner Bros, but no comment was forthcoming.
Mad Max: Fury Road, a reboot of the original Australian dystopian sci-fi film series starring Mel Gibson, is directed by George Miller (who helmed all three of the originals) and is due for release in May 2015. The film will screen out of competition at the Cannes film festival.
In the same Esquire interview, Hardy says that he has “never been more excited and out of my comfort zone” and described the film as “fucking unbelievable”.
