Tom Hanks' wife Rita Wilson opens up about 'extreme coronavirus side effects'

Tom Hanks ' wife Rita Wilson has opened up about her battle with coronavirus and the "extreme effects" she had also suffered.

The actress, 63, discussed details of her horrifying battle with the deadly virus on Tuesday morning, via a video call with CBS presenter Gayle King.

Rita explained she is thankfully now "feeling great" a few weeks on from her diagnosis, and has completely recovered.

However, she recalled on the moment she first started to experience painful symptoms.

Rita explained: "I was very tired, I felt extremely achy, uncomfortable. I didn't want to be touched.

"And then the fever started, with chills like I've never had before.

"Looking back, I also realised I was losing my sense of taste and smell and I didn't realise it at the time."

Rita's hunky husband caught the virus too while the pair were in Australia last month.

She also revealed they didn't catch the virus from each other, but both believe they had contracted it from a third person.

Rita had caught a 102-degree fever, and admitted doctors gave her chloroquine to treat it.

"I was completely nauseous, I had vertigo, I could not walk and my muscles felt very weak," she added.

However the actress said her husband had "milder symptoms" and didn't appear to lose his sense of smell or taste.

The star is now trying to turn her traumatising experience into a positive one for others, by fundraising for the virus.

She told the TV show: "[I'm] trying to raise some money for COVID-19 relief through my remix of Hip Hop Hooray with Naughty by Nature."

Thankfully, Tom is also back up and running after he was infected with the deadly bug.
