Tom Hanks’ son left people stunned after he responded to Joe Biden’s projected presidential win with a bizzare rant in which he mimicked a Caribbean accent.

Chet Hanks, also known as rapper Chet Haze, shared the video on his Instagram alongside the caption: “Sorry I had to.”

In the video Chet appeared to suggest “respect” should be shown to Donald Trump as he is the current president. He then revealed he was joking and launched a tirade of insults at Mr Trump in Jamaican Patois.

Many were confused by Chet’s speech on social media, with some suggesting his use of the accent was inappropriate.

“Every time I remember that this is tom hanks son I am both mesmerized and so very very confused,” wrote one person on Twitter.

Another asked: “Is there an explainer on how Chet Hanks decided he was Jamaican?”

The 30-year-old has previously been accused of cultural appropriation for posting videos in which he uses a Jamaican accent. In When Tom Hanks was nominated for his lead role in A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood in January 2002, Chet gave a shout-out to his dad in a Caribbean accent.

Earlier this year the rapper defended his use of the accent. He asked: “Why are we so quick to be angry and tense over the blurring of racial communities, instead of just being welcoming towards it?”
