Tom Hanks says coronavirus symptoms included 'body aches' and 'fatigue'

Hollywood star Tom Hanks has shared details on exactly how he felt during his battle with coronavirus.

The Forest Gump actor, 63 told how his body felt exhausted and achy after he contracted Covid-19, which also infected his wife Rita Wilson.

The couple, who have been married since 1998, spent three days at Gold Coast University Hospital in Queensland, Australia, where Tom was filming a Baz Luhrmann biopic about Elvis Presley.

The father-of-four said he "had some body aches and was very fatigued".

In fact he was so weak he "wiped" out 12 minutes into a 30-minute simple work-out.

"I just tried to do basic stretches and exercises on the floor and I couldn't even get halfway through", he told The National Defense Radio Show.

The two-time Oscar winner said his wife, also 63, suffered much worse than he did, with 102F fevers, chills, and nausea.

Her severe symptoms are said to have likely been a side effect from the immunosuppressive drug, Chloroquine.

Tom said of his wife's symptoms: "She was so nauseous, she had to crawl on the floor from the bed to the facilities. It lasted a while," Tom revealed.

He added: "Rita went through a tougher time than I did. She had a much-higher fever and she had some other symptoms. She lost her sense of taste and smell. She got absolutely no joy from food for a better part of three weeks."

Actress Rita, opened up herself about her horrifying fight with the deadly virus via a video call with CBS presenter Gayle King, where she explained she is thankfully now "feeling great" a few weeks on from her diagnosis, and has completely recovered.

However, she recalled on the moment she first started to experience painful symptoms.

She explained: "I was very tired, I felt extremely achy, uncomfortable. I didn't want to be touched.

"Looking back, I also realised I was losing my sense of taste and smell and I didn't realise it at the time."

She also revealed she and Tom didn't catch the virus from each other, but both believe they had contracted it from a third person.

Rita had caught a 102-degree fever, and admitted doctors gave her chloroquine to treat it.

"I was completely nauseous, I had vertigo, I could not walk and my muscles felt very weak," she added.

However the actress said her husband had "milder symptoms" and didn't appear to lose his sense of smell or taste.

"And then the fever started, with chills like I've never had before."
