Tom Hanks’ rapper son Chet Haze has assured fans that his parents are “not trippin’” and “not worried” about their coronavirus diagnosis.
Hanks and his wife, the actor and musician Rita Wilson, were diagnosed with COVID-19 while working in Australia.
On his Instagram, Haze, otherwise known as Chester Hanks, recorded himself addressing fans concerned about the pair’s well-being.
“It’s true, my parents got coronavirus,” Haze said. “Crazy.”
He continued, “They’re both down in Australia right now, cos my dad was shooting a movie down there. I just got off the phone with them [and] they both are fine.
“They’re not even that sick, they’re not worried about it, they’re not trippin’, but they’re going through the necessary health precautions, obviously.”
Hanks was shooting a forthcoming Elvis Presley biopic in the country when diagnosed, while Wilson was promoting her new album.
In a statement posted to his social media, Hanks confirmed that they are doing well.
“We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires,” Hanks wrote. “Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?”
Production on the Elvis biopic, which is being directed by Baz Luhrmann, has been halted while cast and crew undergo tests for coronavirus.
Scheduled for release in 2021, it stars Austin Butler as the iconic star and Hanks as his long-time manager.
