Nearly 18 years since the final episode of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” aired, the beloved TV character is back with a familiar question: “Won’t you be my neighbor?”

But this time, Tom Hanks takes up the role of Mister Rogers. He asks the question and sings the show’s memorable opening song in a new trailer released Monday for “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”

The film, due out in November, is based on the relationship forged between journalist Tom Junod and Fred Rogers.

The trailer opens with Hanks sliding on Mister Rogers’ iconic cozy red cardigan and kicking off his loafers as he begins an episode of the long-running children’s show, which aired from 1968 until 2001.

“I think the best thing we can do,” says Hanks as Mister Rogers, “is to let people know that each one of them is precious.”
