Tom Hanks claims he put £100 on Leicester City to win the Premier League at the start of the season

Since August, Leicester fans have watched in awe at their team’s meteoric rise to the top of the Premier League table. And no one will be glued to their screens more than the lucky few who had such faith they put a bet on their team to win at the start of the season.

One of the people, apparently, is Hollywood actor Tom Hanks.

Hanks told ITN  he put £100 on the Foxes to top the table at the start of the season. When questioned on the veracity of that, he coyly answered: “Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t,” so it might well have been a joke.

According to William Hill, odds on Leicester winning the title at the start of the season were 5000 to 1, so if Hanks did as he said he’d be looking forward to a nifty £500,000 return.

Rupert Adams at William Hill said they had 25 people who put bets on the team to win at the start of the season, some of which have cashed out now (none of the bets at William Hill were for £100). The team need just three points over the next three games in order to clinch victory.

If Hanks, who is currently mulling over his team Aston Villa’s poor performance, did put put the bet on it probably won’t make notable difference to his estimated $390million net worth if we’re honest.
